The Ekurhuleni Campus offers excellent tertiary education opportunities, maintaining academic quality by adhering to the same examination standards as the main campus in Vanderbijlpark. Ekurhuleni Satellite Campus is the sole higher education institution in the municipality that provides a unique opportunity for training at degree, diploma, certificate, and especially short course levels. Secunda is a town situated on the Highveld, positioned approximately 150 kilometers from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, and 180 kilometers from Vanderbijlpark. One of its significant features is its proximity to one of the largest industries in the region, SASOL.

Secunda Campus, formerly known as Highveld Ridge Campus, was founded in the year 1987. Since its inception, the campus has experienced substantial growth and development. Presently, Secunda Campus boasts an enrollment of over 850 registered students.

Focus on Local Industry

The primary mission of Secunda Campus is to cater to the specific needs of the local industry. In this context, the campus functions primarily as a service provider to SASOL, placing a particular emphasis on the delivery of programs related to Engineering and Technology.

The overarching goal is to develop a skilled workforce of Technicians and Engineers, addressing the human resource requirements of the industry. This approach is instrumental in supporting the growth and sustainability of the local economy and, in particular, the SASOL facility located in close proximity to Secunda.

The Upington Campus of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was established in 1995 with a clear mission: to provide quality tertiary education that is both affordable and accessible to the rural communities of the Northern Cape Province.

This campus, situated in an area characterized by agriculture and sparsely populated regions, serves as the sole provider of higher education within a 400-kilometer radius. Its presence has a significant impact on meeting the higher educational needs of communities in Upington and neighboring towns, stretching as far as Namibia.
