VUT Warmly Extends a Vibrant Welcome to All First Year Students.On Friday, 16 February 2024, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) marked the conclusion of its ten-day Orientation Programme with a special welcome day for the incoming first-year students. This event took place at the university’s main residence sports field and was designed to extend a warm and vibrant reception to the academic year’s newest cohort.

The welcome day saw active involvement from key stakeholders, including the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, South African Police Services (SAPS), and local Community Policing Forums (CPF) from Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging. Their collaborative efforts underscored a shared commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, and successful transition of VUT’s newcomers.

Representatives from these organizations provided invaluable insights, resources, and support mechanisms to empower students with the knowledge and tools necessary for a safe and successful start at VUT.

The event served as a valuable opportunity for first-year students to familiarize themselves with the campus environment and establish connections with fellow peers, faculty members, and university staff. In her welcoming address, Dr Trishana Soni, the acting Executive Director of Student Support Services at VUT, emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts in promoting campus safety and security. Professor Maggie Linington, the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, encouraged active student engagement in the learning process.
Vision from the Vice Chancellor
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor and Principal, Prof Khehla Ndlovu, expressed gratitude to all present and commended the organizing team for their efforts. Prof Ndlovu addressed the class of 2024, highlighting the significance of this new journey and reaffirming the university’s commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment.
Support and Engagement Beyond the Classroom
External representatives, including those from the Information Regulator, Provincial Safety, and Student Representative Council, along with support departments, shared insights on crucial matters. Noteworthy stakeholders such as ABSA bank, Standard bank, African bank, Halls, MTN, Cell-C, Red Bull, Portia M, Telkom, and the African Youth Development Fund were present, offering additional support and perspectives.
